Pakhuis de Zwijger, Amsterdam
The script by Annee Grøtte Viken, extracted from Murakami’s 1Q84, will lead us through a tunnel of sensations. The traffic outside and the Jan Schaefer Brug which cuts right through Pakhuis de Zwijger and spans the 200-metre IJ port of Amsterdam, was part of the stage setting of the Show. Live performances and reciprocal action between artists and attendees. Daniela Gfeller and Nienke Voorintholt put us in the right frame of mind.
Ralph de Jongh – The Crit
He uses fragility and fracture to compose new elements and to comprise impermanence; to blow a bubble in time and let it burst and use the remainders to move on. His installations have a transitional and incidental nature, made for a restricted moment for a specific place. At the Sensory Space Show Ralph de Jongh welcomed the attendees in The Crit. Not an hermetic or leading framework, but merely an extravagant party for all your senses. The Crit is an infrastructure bubbling with the tension of esthetic and contextual poetry. Combining painting, sculpture, perfume and video in a spatial installation.
Annee Grøtte Viken – The Tunnel
She uses fiction as a tool for thinking about and understanding space. Grøtte Viken presents a script responding to the work of Ralph de Jongh based on her personal investigation and understanding of his work. She accesses the world of de Jongh through a conversation based on a referential space extracted from the novel 1Q84 by the Japanese author Haruki Murakami. In this mise-en-scène she impersonates The Tunnel. The traffic, cars, bikers, pedestrians outside will accompany us on our travel through the tunnel.
Elejan van der Velde – The Machinist
The main focus of his essay ‘In the momentum of the vestige’, written while participating in the program Studio For Immediate Spaces at the Sandberg Institute, is the creation of a typology for visible traces. His concernment with traces in domestic spaces, developed while working as a cleaner for elderly people, is characteristic. His work is not only effecting daily live and his surroundings, it is also open to their influences. His appreciation for Annee Grøtte Vikens work is the rudiment for his presence at the Show. He brings Annee’s work to existence through the power of storytelling and performance. Elejan is the Machinist!
Tim Breukers & Tim Breukers
His majestical sculptures look like monuments of consumer culture, rich and heavy. It almost feels like a desecration, the way he handles them, using them as activity toys. Playing with them, not shielding them from the influences of the public or gravity or the weather. Every unintentional alteration is embraced. His performances are like his sculptures: whimsical, they excel in absurd mental leaps. Tim Breukers invited Tim Breukers, the vigorous right-back defender of Heracles Almelo. They were the intervention artists of the evening.
De Sensory Space Show is grotendeels engelstalig.
